NAMCHI, April 23: Continuing with the awareness on various health issues, a one day sensitization Workshop Programme on HIV / AIDS, STI / RTI / RCH, tuberculosis and water borne disease was held near Manzing block, South Sikkim. Similar programmes on health awareness have already been held in various parts of South district and the same will be held in other places of South district in the days to come.
The resource persons for the programme were from the Health Department, South district. Dr DC Sharma, one of the resource persons addressed the crowd wherein he discussed about the general health hazard and the methods of preventing them. He also talked on Reproductive Child Health, Antenatal Care, Child Health and Immunization citing the advantage of proper treatment at proper time, and also mentioned the need of immunization.
Subash Rai, DHEO South, in his address talked on HIV / AIDS, STI / RTI, giving more emphasis on the methods of prevention and also cited the various ways in which it is spread. Besides that he also talked on water borne diseases, its outbreak and the ways to prevent it.
Yadunath Chettri, STS, Namchi gave a detailed talk on tuberculosis, the ways in which it is spread and the methods of control.
The programme was also attended by Mutli Purpose Health Workers from Neyhbroom Primary Health Sub Centre, Lady Health Visitor (LHV) Ravangla, also participated and supported the programme.
The programme is held in collaboration with the Panchayat of the area. Around 110 participants from in and around the managing block attended the programme, health check-up was also done in the programme, while the medicines were provided by the Panchayat unit.
Siding with the saying that ‘Prevention is better than cure’, the Health Department with the support of various social units, is dedicated towards the well being of the rural and the urban population.
