C hief Minister of Sikkim Dr.Pawan Chamling with delegates from Sikkim participated in 3rd North-East Business summit inauguarated by Vice-president of India on April11,2007 at Hotel The Ashok, Chanakyapuri New Delhi . The Annual North-East Business meeting was organised by Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region & Indian Chamber of Commerce.
The presence of the Hon’ble Chief Ministers of all the North-Eastern States including Sikkim in Chief Ministers Conclave on subject topic of Thrust Areas for Investment in the North Eastern States was highlight Plenary Session 2 .
Dr. Chamling in his address said that this is the era of globalization and much importance must be given for privatization in different sectors so that development may take place in every respect as has been seen elsewhere today. He cited the example of the private sectors that have contributed largely in the country. While dwelling upon the importance of the private sectors, he expressed that although there are a few numbers of private sectors and investments in NE, the potentiality and opportunity in this sectors has not been fully explored and availed of by the people of this region. Dr. Chamling said that Sikkim is rich in natural properties like medicinal plants and there is enormous viability and potentiality to start a big industry or factory in Sikkim and NE region in this line. ChiefMinister Chamling is expected to return Namchi on April 12, 2007.
A large number of Indian business community members and foreign delegates were part of the Summit. Annual event saw over 1000 Indian businessmen and international participants specially from Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh and a large delegation from Thailand as part of the two day conference.
Thai Commerce Minister Kirikkrai Jirapet delivered keynote address ,as Chief Guest of valedictory programme, and Thai minister said that Asia was rising from Tokyo to Sri-Lanka and fromTurkey to Korea and therefore, no part of Asia should leg behind and that Asian countries should learn more from their failures than successes. The Nagaland Governor K.Shankarnaryanan ,Sikkim CM Dr. Chamling, ICC president SK Bangur,ICC Secreatry General Rajiv Singh and Secretary DoNER Sushma Singh were also present in valedictory session.
The Conference was concluded in evening of April12, 2007 with speech from Minister of Commerce Kamal Nath who was Guest of Honour in the concluding session.
