JORETHANG, April 17: The Denchung Junior High School in South district today marked its Golden Jubilee in a grand slant inaugurating its new 6 roomed school building from the hands of Chief Minister Pawan Chamling.
The Chief Minister, speaking before a congregation of students and local gentries voiced the state government’s initiatives for ushering new horizons in education by way of assuring full government sponsorships for students securing admission in reputed Cambridge and Oxford University.
The Chief Minister today also emphasised before the students to create in themselves a mind set of competitiveness in order to be successful in life and career alike. He said that the government is establishing numerous educational and technological institutes in Sikkim, the rewards of which the students should pass on.
Chamling pointed that earlier, development was concentrated only within Gangtok, but after SDF government come to power, the government has started sending huge amount of budget for rural development. “We have laid the actual foundation of democracy in Sikkim. But, until the people become competent enough to take strong socio political decisions, democracy can not be considered mature”, said the Chief Minister.
Taking the same platform, the local Panchayat also placed before the Chief Minister a number of demands including a link road from Dung Fatak to Namchi Government College via Denchung, a metal road from Denchung to Denchung Junior High School, Jorethang road to Water Pumping Area and Jorethang road to Dung Primary School, to which the CM assured to fulfill all the demands.
Addressing the gathering today, the Minister for Human Resource Development Department GM Gurung stressed that teachers are not only government servants, but are also the sample seeds to produce good citizens for the nation. The Minister for Rural Management Development Department KN Rai, also the area MLA, proposed the welcome address at the occasion.
The land donors of the school late Tshering Wangdi Lepcha and Phurba Tshering Lepcha were felicitated by the Chief Minister with mementoes and shawls. Meanwhile Gom Junior High School received ‘all-round best performance award’ from Jorethang constituency for the session 2006-07. The students of surrounding schools from within Jorethang constituency also presented colourful cultural programmes before the guests and assemblage, the evening being charmed by a rock band from Darjeeling.
