CONGRESS REACTS TO SDF CRITICISM

GANGTOK, April 15: ‘It seems Bhandari’s meeting with the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and submission of report on the misdeeds of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) government under the leadership of Pawan Chamling has completely shaken the party in power, hence resorted to issuance of press statement with a view to misguide the innocent public’, opined the Congress today answering to Sikkim Democratic Front’s recent assertion of NB Bhandari’s allegations before the Prime Minister as ‘baseless’.
A meeting of the Sikkim Pradesh Congress Seva Dal at the Congress head office in Gangtok today held the recent SDF criticism as attempts to tarnish the image of Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee’s President Nar Bahadur Bhandari, thereby adjudging that frustration arising out of a number of developments going against the SDF party and also the diminishing people’s support to the party and its leaders led the SDF resort to such ‘baseless allegations against Nar Bahadur Bhandari’.
Estimating the party President an enigmatic political leader, the Sikkim Pradesh Congress Seva Dal today clarified that NB Bhandari always believed that Sikkim has the potential of producing huge amount of electricity by its water resources, but never wanted such potential to be harnessed at the cost of the land and the people of Sikkim as is being done by the present government.
Sikkim is ‘Switzerland sans Power Supply’ was evident from the fact that the whole of Sikkim was plunged into darkness for the last few days, which may recur in future as well. Despite its own hydroelectric power, the Government of Sikkim has the highest power tariff today and the consumers are made to pay more for less supply of power – the Congress indicted.
