15000 crore Investment in Sikkim in 5 years

In what should be heartening news for an investment-starved State like Sikkim, varous industry groups during recent North-East Forum meeting at New Delhi have expressed their keenness to invest at least Rs 15,000 crore within the next five years in various projects.
Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) sources said representatives of many industrial houses have assured Chief Minister Dr.Pawan Chamling that at least 28 industrial projects are in the pipeline for sikkim, which is expected to meet the growing demands of the industrialisation from various groups to create employment opportunities in Sikkim.
Several other projects in which the industrialists expressed their desire to invest include setting up of industrial estates, modern meat processing unit, Bio-diesel plant, pharma units and infrastructure development in Sikkim.
The Chief Minister said that the interest shown by the leading industry houses during the inter-action at the successful third North East Business Summit in New is a welcome gesture, and given the liberal incentives offered in the recent announcement of the North East Industrial and Investment Policy (NEIIP) by the Government of India as well as peaceful environment in state and promising trade opportunities through Nathula. it was expected that the industry would come forward to take the benefit of the new policy.
