Sikkim CM Pawan Chamling's month long tour reaches Damthang on 2nd day






Namchi May 18: The second day of the Chief Minister’s tour across the state began with offering prayers at Ngadak Gumpa at Namchi and after which he visited Samduptse where he directed the concerned department to urgently begin the construction of road at the area and also to cut down the delicate trees of the surrounding area of the Samduptse prmises. After offering prayers at Samduptse the real meeting with the people started; first the CM visited Jaun Bari ward where he visited the under construction gumpa.

While addressing the people he said that the area needs to focus on organic farming for sustainable growth and asserted that if any help and assistance is required then the government is there to support. The Damthang visit was really interesting as it was declared that Damthang will be developed as the first eco town of the state. The pancayat of the area put forward 14 demands which included carpeting of roads, drinking water facility, construction of ram mandir, Manilakhang Gumpa, rope way connecting Tendong Gumpa with Damthang and setting up of processing of local fiber plant with the organic textile unit was also proposed.
The CM in his address to the people made the declaration to the delight of the people. The water reservoir project was also sanctioned instantly. Furthermore CM added that the people needs to cooperate to the fullest for the true development of state and needs to be very punctual in dispatching their duty during the MGNRAGS work as this work is for the development of the village and the money spent is also of the public only.
Whereas during his visit to Chemchey there were very less demands put forward by the public to the CM which included alternative power transformer, carpeting of road connecting from Lachithang to Lower Chemchey, iron structured green house for promoting organic farming in the state. The CM after going through the demands stated that the demands put forward will be definitely looked into where as the demand for community centre said that if land is
provided the centre will be sanctioned at once. Adding more CM stated that the people of Chemchey needs to focus in agriculture, horticulture and allied works for availing sustainable development and economy. Furthermore he also stressed that the people need to adopt village tourism or home stay in the area and if any one begins the same then two rooms will be added from the government fund to support and encourage the youths engaged in the said profession. During the halt at Upper Dew Ward the people of the area demanded the CM for upgrading the Damthang Secondary School to senior secondary along with the demand for play ground as well.
Mr. Dassang Tshering Sherpa, 72 years, resident of Damthang bazaar who is a retired language teacher with regard to CM visit said that “ it is very hard for the common public to visit CM in other times but the current tour of CM has made us very happy as the people across the state can speak for themselves and can expect prompt solution of their problems.” Furthermore the CM in his visits to most of the pilgrimage destinations and spots across the state directed the concerned department officials to carry out the works qualitatively as any bad image of the destination will not only damage the image of the state but also of the nation as the international tourist visiting the state is increasing rapidly and for the development of any infrastructure the proposal has to be made at once and funds from the supplementary budget can be utilized for making the destination attractive. Furthermore CM also said to the public gathered at different places that there are some anti social elements who are against the development of the state, prosperity of the public and the SDF government who will not enable the promotion of state and the Sikkimese people at large which the public needs to carefully examine.
During the second half of the day CM visited Sikkip, Chumlok, Wok, Pabong, Mamley and Kamrang. Furthermore the CM will be touring Mikkhola, Kitam, Sumbuk, Melli- Sadam via beer factory, Maniram- Bhangyang and Fung Dara on 19th May 2011.
The reaction of the public seeing their Chief Minister and the top officers visiting them to their doorsteps were overwhelming, people who were present in numbers expressed their happiness and joy to the government for coming up with such innovative and unique idea of reaching the people from all the areas to know about their problem and the problems of the area
