GANGTOK, 02 May: The ‘Fun Pet Dog Care Show’ held on the occasion of the World Veterinary Day attracted a good crowd on 30 April at the Animal Husbandry Polyclinic premises.
The World Veterinary Day celebration, on the theme ‘Rabies’, was jointly organized by the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department and SARAH.
Animal Husbandry Minister, Dawcho Lepcha was present as the chief guest, accompanied by former Animal Husbandry Director, PP Sharma, as guest of honour.
A total of 46 dogs of different breeds like Labradors, Boxers, Saint Bernards, Pugs, Dobermans, Tibetan Mastiffs and others took part in the show.The show was judged by a panel of judges comprising of Dr Arjun Adhikari, Dr Kalpana Pradhan, Dr Lata Rai and two doctors from SARAH on ten categories.
While expressing his happiness on the show, the Minister directed the department to continue with such programmes and efforts to spread wider awareness.On the occasion, the dog squad from 19th Bn SSB and Sikkim Police gave demonstrations on basic obedience, search operations and hurdle crossing.
The venue was also shared by stalls of the state unit of Lady Veterinary Association and SARAH in educating the people on rabies and passing tips on proper care of the pets and proper pet foods.
Veticare Paksam also distributed pet foods to the winner dogs in the show. The show was also greatly enjoyed by the students from Kidzee School.
