“Adarsh Basti” inaugurated by Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling

SINGTAM; April: South Sikkim’s Manpari Basti near Singtam has been renamed, “Adarsh Basti”. Chief Minister Pawan Chamling announced this during his visit to the village on Tuesday to attend the Srimad Bhagawat Mahapuran organized there coinciding with Ram Nawami by a local NGO, Kalyan Samaj.


On the occasion, the Chief Minister also announced a Rs. 15 lakh contribution towards the expansion of the present infrastructure of Siddhidevi Temple in the village.

While expressing happiness over the organizing of religious functions regularly at the temple premises, Mr. Chamling also handed over Rs. 1 lakh to the organizing committee as assistance towards organizing such functions in the future.
The Chief Minister also inspected the Sikkim Democratic Front’s branch office in the area and visited the bereaved family members of late Kumar Gurung and extended his condolence.

On behalf of the residents of Manpari Basti and members of the Kalyan Samaj, its president, Indra Chettri expressed thanks and gratitude towards the Chief Minister for his generous contribution towards the welfare of the villagers and renaming the village.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by area the MLA, BS Pant, Tumin Lingee area MLA-cum-Government’s Chief Whip, Ugen T. Gyatso, Singtam Nagar Panchayat secretary, Bishnu Maya Sherpa, councilor, Anita Tamang and a huge gathering of local populace.
