Gangtok temp dips by 4 degrees

GANGTOK, November 18: The sudden change in weather in the Sikkim Himalaya region induced by cyclone Phyan which had lashed the western coasts of the country recently has resulted in a steep decline in day temperature following continuous snow-fall in higher reaches in the State since today morning.
The maximum temperature in the Rajdhani dipped by around 4 degree Celsius from 17.9 degrees yesterday to 14.1 degrees today.
Gangtok met in-charge K Sitaram informed that change in weather in attributed to the after-effect of the dreaded cyclone Fyan that had lashed the western coast of country few days ago. He said the cyclone combined with the Western Disturbances passing over Himachal Pradesh had its effect up to Sikkim as well resulting in light showers.
Sitaram said that the Western Disturbances are now stretched over the area covering Chattisgarh, Bihar, West Bengal and Sikkim, some 900 m above sea level. He added that the trend is expected to continue for a couple of days.
