Bharat Siksha Ratan Award for Sikkim educationist

GANGTOK, August 23: Karma Samten Bhutia has been selected for Bharat Siksha Ratan Award sponsored by the Global Society for Health and Educational growth, for his dedication and contribution towards growth of education in this region.
The 24-year-old from Tathangchen, near Gangtok will be conferred the award on August 24 on the occasion of 29th National Seminar and Award function in New Delhi
Born on February 26, 1975 to Passang Bhutia and Pema Choden Bhutia of Lower Tathangchen, Gangtok, he pursued his early schooling from Tashi Namgyal Academy and completed his Higher Secondary education from Enchey Senior Secondary School.
After his graduation with History Honours from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Mr. Bhutia started his teaching career at Kyi de Khang School, Gangtok in 1998, Bahai School, Saramsa, Ranipool, East Sikkim in 2001.
In 2001, he completed his Post Graduation from Kamraj University Madurai, after which he joined as Post Graduate Teacher in History at Magalbaria Senior Secondary School, West Sikkim in 2002. From here he was transferred to Phodong Senior Secondary School, North Sikkim in 2004.
After getting through SLET (North East State Level Eligibility Test) Degree from Guwahati, Assam, he was appointed as Lecturer in History, Namchi Government College, South Sikkim in the year 2005.
At present, he is working as Head of the Department (HOD), History, Namchi Government College.
“Since 2006, Mr. Bhutia is also working as a coordinator IGNOU, Study Centre, 2404, Namchi helping the learners in every way to pursue higher education through Distance Education with the aim of bringing educational growth amongst the drop outs, working students of Sikkim,” added a press release issued by Buddhi L Khamdhak of Namchi Govt College.
