Vehicles stranded for 1 hour on Gangtok -Siliguri Highway

GANGTOK, July 31: About 100 vehicles were stranded for more than an hour because of the landside which occurred on the National Highway near Rangpo yesterday and today. The vehicles were waiting for the road to be cleared by the GREF workers. “Since the landslide was minor, so we used only five workers and a JCB earth excavator” said Mr. AK Yadav a GREF official. “So within one hour we had removed all the debris and cleared the NH, 31A road,” he added. However, Sikkim, situated on the new belt of high terrain and surrounded by a new glacier is open to disaster.
