Cement ‘racketeer’ arrested in Sikkim
Gangtok:Aug 6: Police seized two cement-laden lorries at Rangpo in East Sikkim yesterday and arrested Bishnu Darnal, a supervisor of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation on charges of illegally transporting 400 cement bags. The action follows a complaint lodged by Mr Madan Chhetri, president of the Truck Drivers and Owners’ Association, Sikkim, with the police. Mr Chettri had alleged that the cement-laden lorry was unloaded at the hardware shop of one Mr Raj Kumar Agrawal at Rangpo. “The truck was bound for NHPC project site at Singtam in Sikkim from Rangapani in West Bengal. It, however, reached the Rangpo check point with false documents prepared by the cement racketeer,” said DIG Range, Mr Akshay Sachdeva. “This is a serious case,” he added. and they all are in police custody so the case will be further investigate thoroughly,” Mr. Sachdeva added. It may be recalled that the police had recently arrested eight persons and seized three lorries with 600 bags of cement at Singtam. The arrested persons were identified as Sandip Agarwal, Suresh Agarwal, Anand Biswakarma, Ashok Maithey, Rajesh Kumar, Sandip Sintury, Phurba Sherpa and Ronald Chhetri
