Re-demarcation of Namchi & Jorethang, Sikkim


Namchi:Under the directive of Chief Minister Pawan Chamling,a meeting for the re-demarcation of the boundaries of the new municipal Council of Namchi & Jorethang was called on August2 by DC South D.Anandan at the DAC Conference Hall in Namchi.

The meeting which began at around 11 am was attended by the Chairman ST Welfare Board -Passang Sherpa,Upaadyaksha South-B.M.Rai, DDO South- Dinesh Bhutia,ADC South- Yasodha Bhandari,Joint Secretary-UD&HD South-SL Rai,Deputy Director-Statistical Bureau-KP Gupta,RO Land Revenue-BB Theengh,BDO Namchi-Somnath Adhikari,BDO TeniTarku-RBGurung, along with the Panchayat and RDA of the wards falling under municipal Council's demarcation.

During the Meeting, Assistant Town Planner-UD&HD received flak from the DC(South) for making a rather late appearance at the meeting where his punctual attendance was necessary.The ATP showed up an hour late at12.15pm when he was immediately shown the exit from the Hall by Mr.Anandan for flouting administrative protocol.The participants at the meeting endorsed the DC's action.

Mr. Anandan later talking to media informed the responsibilities assigned to the Revenue Officers,RDAs and Panchayats would be finalised within the next three days and the details and recommendations then forwarded to the government and following their passing by the cabinet,it would make into final demarcation of the new municipal Councils.

Further the DC South informed that in the new demarcation ,some wards were also getting affected and hence the Panchayats and RDAs of the such wards has been invited to attend the meeting.He also stated that the Municipal Council of the Ravangla would have no changes and would be same as the earlier demarcation .

Only Namchi and Jorethang Municipal Council would be affected with some changes from the earlier demarcation.During the meeting,it was also hinted that in the new demarcation of the boundaries for the Namchi Municipal Corporation,the 135 ft tall statue of the GuruPadmasambhava would be included,while Kareftar might stand to be excluded from Jorethang Municipal Council, of which it had been part of the in earlier demarcation.
