Sikkim Police: No Political Motive in Murder @ Daramdin



Gangtok: Mahesh Subba, 31, a member of the Sikkim Himali Rajya Parishad, was murdered in West district’s Daramdin on Friday. Police said personal dispute was the reason behind the murder. Opposition parties in the state have demanded a CBI inquiry into the death.
DIG Range(East) Akshay Sachdeva while speaking with a Local Television channel has in a statement has confirmed that Police Investigation has not revealed any political motive in Murder at Daramdin,West Sikkim of one Mahesh Subba around 10 pm on night of Bhanu Jayanti by Hang Subba who have been arrested by Police and confessed to murder on self-defence as victim Mahesh Subba on night of crime came to the house of Monahang Subba and attacked him and cause injury to his property as well as life and in rage as well as self- defence ,he responded back with khukri and in process killing Mahesh Subba. The murder was result of a personal dispute rather than a political one as per reports till now.
“Monahang (26) was arrested after he accepted that he had killed Mahesh. The court has remanded him in judicial custody for five days,” Mr Akshay Sachdeva, DIG, Range, said. The SHRP president, Dr AD Subba, alleged that Mahesh’s murder was politically motivated. “The murderer was a supporter of the ruling SDF party,” Dr Subba, alleged. Mr Sachdeva, however, said that Monahang killed Mahesh following a personal enmity.
However, Senior Police officials in South&West districts are still investigating the case.

However, The opposition parties in Sikkim have expressed serious concern over murder of Mahesh Subba who was supporter of one parties in opposition.

Daramdin is a market village in West Sikkim. This is also the place where the Lepchas (original inhabitants of Sikkim) tried to reach Heaven by stacking pots made out of mud. If one looks carefully one can still find bits and pieces of the pottery.
