Dr. Chamling Appeals To Sangha Community

Chief Minister Dr. Chamling lay the foundation stone of New Ngadak Gumpa
Namchi: The foundation stone for the construction ofnew Ngadak Gumpa at Churpisey was laid down by Dr.Chamling in the presence of his holiness Trulshik Rimpoche Ngawang Chokyi Lodro who performed the Sglang ceremony or the earth santification prayers for the new construction.The Ceremony was also attended by the Tika MayaChamling, Minister PS Golay and S B Subedi and Speaker Sikkim Assembly-D N Takarpa, The prayers for theceremony was conducted by Rimpoche at old monastery here.
Addressing the gathering of monks and devotees ,Chief Minister stressed on the Ngadak Monastery as one of the heritage treasures of Sikkim and highlighted the state government's efforts and endeavours in preserving it.He assured his full support and financial aid for construction of the new monastery,to be built along side the older one and new building would now incorporate a library, a museaum, a conference hall,rest room for tourists and devotees while the efforts would be made to make new structureof monastery as authentic and asthetically appealing.
Addressing the Sangha community, Mr. Chamling asked them to take stock of the SDF Government's efforts and inititatives towards the development and preservation of the buddhism in sikkim in last 12 years of its rule. He informed that 90 monastic schools functioning in the state at present and construction of many religious sites are underway and He further announced that new monasteries would be constructed at BodhGaya and Sarnath by Sikkim to take its buddhist heritage a step further.
The Ngadak Gumpa, situated few kms above Namchi Bazaar at Ghurpisey was formerly the palace of Prince Palden Ongmu constructed almost 280 years ago in Year 1717 and later in thear 1836,it was converted into the present day monaster which itself is very old and one of the most visited holy sites here along with a popular tourist destination in south sikkim.
The ceremony today was also attended by many government officials.
