Traffic between Siliguri and Sikkim disrupted for hours

The traffic between Siliguri and Sikkim was disrupted for more than six hours when a portion of NH31A sank near Sevoke Coronation Bridge on Sunday. A five-feet deep crater appeared on a 40-metre stretch the highway at 6.30am. The traffic was disrupted when two trucks were stuck (in picture by Chinlop Fudong Lepcha) in the affected portion of the highway, about 30km from Siliguri. The highway is the only road between Sikkim and the rest of the country The Border Roads Organisation said its personnel had retrieved one of the stuck vehicles from the spot. After that, they completed the necessary repairs to enable light vehicles to pass the area in a single file around 1pm. Efforts were still on in the evening to pull a heavy truck out of the crater. Traffic on NH31A was hit for more than five hours when a landslide took place at Birickdara on Saturday
