Sikkim celebrates 37th State Day

Gangtok, May 16 (PTI)  The northeastern state of Sikkim today celebrated its 37th State Day.
It was on this day in 1975 that Sikkim officially became a state of the Indian Union. Lhendup Dorji and B B Lal were the first chief minister and governor respectively.
On the occasion, Governor Balmiki Prasad Singh expressed his support to Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling''s contention that Sikkim''s name should be included in the national anthem.
Chamling has suggested that the word ''Sindh'' should be substituted with the word ''Sikkim'' in the national anthem for further promoting sense of unity and national integration.
