Southern Samity and United Sikkim are at top of the table

Gangtok – United Sikkim handed a 4-1 drubbing to Gauhati Town Club (GTC) in the 2nd Division National Football League here today.


At the Nehru Stadium here this afternoon, Budhiram Tudu netted in the 18th and 43rd minutes while John D Meyonger struck in the 57th minute. The final goal for Sikkim was netted by Joseph Lapira in the 81st minute. It was Sanjeeva Raonpi who scored in the 40th minute which was the equaliser for Town.

Earlier, in the other match at Nehru Stadium in the morning, North Imphal Sporting Association trounced Simla Youngs of Delhi 3-0. Nabachandra netted two in the 5th and 27th minutes while Maikimnung added one more in the 37th minute in the one-sided affair.

At SAI ground this afternoon, table leader Southern Samity of Kolkata was stunned by Langsing Sports Club of Shillong 1-3.

It was Heman Singh who put the Kolkata outfit ahead in the fifth minute. But they could not maintain the lead as Godfrey Decker drew parity in the 23rd minute. After the equaliser, they got their from back and started raiding the opponent territory quite frequently.

After switching over of the sides the Shillong boys were in peak form and went ahead in the 52nd minute when Sanjoy Chetry fired home. The final salvo was unleashed by Donbok Khymdeit in the 83rd minute.

With today’s results, both Southern Samity and United Sikkim are at top of the table with 10 points each.
