Gangtok bids final farewell to Satya Sai Baba


GANGTOK: Thousands of devotes gathered at MG Marg since early morning to pay their last homage to their beloved guru Satya Sai Baba whose last funeral rites were carried out at Puttaparthy, Andhra Pradesh yesterday.

In Sikkim, Sai Baba have a huge following and paying a befitting farewell the State Government had also declared a public holiday to enable the devotees to offer their prayers on the day of the Samadhi.

These devotees who had gathered from all corners of the State were accompanied by religious leaders from different faiths, including a Christian priest and a Muslim imam. In this heart touching ceremony the devotees were singing bhajans, chanting mantras and burning of thousand and eight butter lamps while the ceremony at Puttaparthy was being telecast live on television screen

In the evening a candle light rally was also taken out from MG Marg till Baluwakhani with a huge participation from the members of the Sai Organization and the local public alike. The programme was organized by the Shri Satya Sai Organization Gangtok under the supervision of area MLA Gangtok , Mr. Dorjee Namgyal Bhutia.

The President of Shri Satya Sai Organization of Gangtok and North District, Mr. Passang Sherpa said that Sai Baba left his physical body but now he is in the spiritual body and present among the devotees. The prayer meet started at 9 am and continued till 5 pm. After the completion of Bhajan here at MG Marg, the candle light rally will took place which began from MG Marg to Dharna Nilayam, Baluwakhani.

Furthermore Mr. Sherpa asserted within 8 months Sai baba will reincarnate himself as “Prem Sai” at Karnataka State, Madya District of Gunaparthi Village which was informed by Sai Baba himself quite a long time ago. Though Sai Baba has taken Samadhi on 25th of April 2011 but we believe that Baba will return very soon as Prem Sai considering the reincarnation we devotees have been offering prayers and Bhajan for Sai Baba’s return.

Similarly the Sai devotees from Singtam were also offered prayers for the departed soul of Sai Baba at Singtam Bazaar Mandir since 25th April and today marking the last funeral hundred and eight butter lamps were lit and a prayer were offered and mantras were chanted by the devotees who had gathered in Singtam and from the surrounding places.

At Bardand, 20th Mile, Seti Singh Devi Dham, Durga Mandir similarly the Sai devotees gathered and offered their last homage to Baba. The prayer ceremony was organized by the Mandir Committee where like other places mantras were chanted and bhajans were sung in respect of the holy soul.

Similarly in South District Jorethang more than three thousand devotees of Baba from the surrounding places like Sombaria, Legship, Daramdin, Kamling- Suldung took out a rally from Jorethang Sai Mandir till Rangeet River.

The ceremony at Gangtok was attended by a large number of devotees from all parts of Sikkim where Minister for Sports, Mr. NK Pradhan, Minister for Agriculture Department, Dawcho Lepcha, MLA Gangtok Dorjee Namgyal,Mayor, Deputy Mayor, councillor along with different organizations, NGO’s and Officials representing the State Government were also present
