Gangtok,Sep11: The State’s Tourism Minister Shri Bhim Dhungel will be flagging off 170 Auto Rickshaws in a biggest ever tourism adventure ‘The Rickshaw Run’, wherin 20 nation’s participants will be taking part in the road adventure thrill.
Multi-national teams are participating in the race which begins on Saturday, September 11, in Gangtok, Sikkim, located in the Himalayas between Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan. The teams hope to reach the finishing point, Jaisalmer, in the Rajasthan desert, on Sunday, September 26.
The event will be flagged off from Sikkim’s Capital ‘Gangtok’ on sunday; the contingents will have to reach ‘Jaisalmer’ in Rajasthan crossing 3500 Kms distance from here.
Apart from the adventure of it all we are also looking to raise lots of money for some extremely worthwhile charities.”
Amongst the charities being supported by the three are Frank Water, which funds sustainable clean water projects in developing countries, soldiers charity Help for Heroes and Maiti Napal, a charity which offers help and support to Nepali girls and women who are victims of crimes such as domestic violence.
It is also informed that a friendly football match between the participants and the Bar Association of Sikkim is likely to be scheduled today in Sikkim’s reputed football stadium ‘Paljor Stadium’ at Gangtok.
