Two-day tribal archery competition @Gangtok concluded


GangtokNov13: The 5th State level tribal archery competition with 56 participants from all the four districts, 32 men and 24 women, which began on Tuesday, November 10, was concluded on Wednesday at Paljor Stadium here. The competition was organized by Sikkim Archery Association (SAA).
Mr. N K Pradhan, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Department (SYAD) was chief guest on the concluding day. Mr. Dorjee Namgyal, MLA, Gangtok, Mr. T T Bhutia, Minister, SNT, PHE and President of SAA, Mr. H K Chettri, Secretary, SYAD were guests on the occasion. Two archery Olympians of India, Mr. Tarun Deep Rai and Ms. Dola Banarjee and National coach Mr. Ran Bahadur Tamang were present to witness the competition final.
The competition was in two categories, men and women. Mr. Yogesh Limboo of south district with 617 points ranked 1st among boys and Ms. Ongchok Choden Bhutia of east district with 457 points got 1st position in girls category.
Tarun Deep Rai, who recently won individual gold in Asian Ground Prix Championship in Bangladesh, and his coach R B Tamang informed that to expose local talents, they have prepared a project for an archery institute in the State. Mr. Tamang said he has worked hard for 17 years to complete the project.
