Sikkim Empowering Women with Employability and Personality Skills




Gangtok,nov27: With a theme of “Empowering Women with Employability and Personality Skills”, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), East District, will organize a month long Youth Leadership and Personality Development Programme for 30 women from Non Government Organization (NGO) and Self Help Group (SHG). They will be given free residential training, said Mr. Puran Chettri, District Youth Coordinator, NYK, Gangtok, in a press conference on November 25. The training will begin from December 2, he informed.
He said, “It’s a pilot project in the entire country and 50 districts of the country are selected including Gangtok in east district of Sikkim. Objective of the programme is to raise awareness and consciousness level of women. Micro finance and leadership will be discussed during the programme. Managerial and co-opperative skill to the participants will be provided and life skill education will be given, self employment and technical knowledge in different fields will be provided to the participants during the training to make women an effective force of SHG movement in the state”.
This training is first of its kind in not only the state but in the whole country, Mr. Chettri said.
The training will be divided into three capsules, life skill and basic health keeping, micro finance and its utility, and vocational training. Experts from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Indian Council for Agriculture and Research (ICAR), Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), will be resource persons for the training at Holistic Medicinal Promotion and Allied Education Training Centre, Manbir Colony, Burtuk, Gangtok, he said. After training participants will be provided financial aid from KVIC, he added.
