5th All India Sikkim Chief Minister’s Gold Cup Football Tournament 2009 Inaugurated


Namchi,November11: The 5th All India Chief Minister’s Gold Cup Football Tournament 2009 organized by the South District Football Association (SDFA) was kicked off Monday here at Bhaichung Stadium. The tourney was declared open officially by the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Sikkim Mr. NK Pradhan who was chief Guest on the day. He was accompanied by the MLA Namchi-Singithang constituency Mr. Binod Rai, MLA Zoom-Salghari Mr. Madan Cintury, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs and members of SDFA.
The Minister kicked off the ball with which the tournament was declared open. To mark the inaugural ceremony the organizing committee also held a number of colourful cultural events. Band of the Sikkim Police was another attraction of the inaugural function.
The inaugural match of the tournament was played between two home teams. In the match SAI Namchi went down fighting with the experienced team of Sikkim Police. In schedule time, the score was a tie of 3-3. In the penalty shoot out, Sikkim Police defeated the home team of Namchi with the final score of 6 goals to 5. The inaugural match was witnessed by a huge crowd.
