1st All India Woman's Football Championship in Gangtok


Gangtok,September25: "Now the Only thing we need is a morale booster from general public who are thereal football patrons anywhere in the world. We would like to see mothers and daughters in their home team T-Shirts cheering for our girls" expressed an exuberant Neeru Sewa,IPR,Excise & Commerce Minister of Sikkim who is also the patron of the 1st All India Woman's Football Championship in memory of Late Pem Dorjee scheduled to make its national debut at Palzor Stadium on October07 and concluding on October15,2009.
The tournament is the first of its kind in entire country and will be played under AIFF rules and regulations with participation of the top eight woman's football states in the country.The teams will be competiting for the honours of being first ladies to hold aloft a trophy commissioned at the costs of Rs.5 lakhs,promising to be one of the grandest football trophy in women football in the country.The tournament will be organised at the costs of Rs.3 lakhs on eight teams from states like Tamilnadu,Assam,Manipur ,WestBengal,Orissa,Goa and two teams of Sikkim.
A meetin g of the Sikkim Football Association (SFA) and its woman's wing was held yesterday at Palzor Stadium to formally announce the functioning of the committee.The woman's wing also formally inducted its executive body which has also declared Tika Maya Chamling as the Chief Patron of the tournament which shall be an annual affair in football calendar of Sikkim.The other patron apart from Minister Nilu Sewa also includes Buildings&Housing Minister Tilu Gurung.Also present on the occassion and media briefing were Member State Planning Commission,Ringzing Ongmu who is chairperson of the tournament & Lata Rajen,VicePresident,Renuka Chakrabarty,Secretary and Susan Lachungpa as Treasurer.
