Sikkim University’s SPICMACAY event held


GANGTOK, Aug 2: Eminant Kathak dancer, Dr Malabika Mitra today performed at the Sikkim Government College auditorium in the Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY) event organized by the Sikkim University as part of its second anniversary celebrations.
Accompanying Dr. Mitra were Pratap Banerjee and Pandit Dinanath Mishra.
CB Karki, the Minister for RMDD was the chief guest on the occasion. While placing his welcome speech, Prof Dr Mahendra P Lama, the vice-chancellor of Sikkim University said it was indeed a great opportunity for Sikkim, especially the youth, to witness a SPICMACAY concert. “SPICMACAY seeks to conserve and promote an awareness of the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry of India amongst the youth of this country through focus on the classical arts, with their attendant legends, rituals, mythology and philosophy and to facilitate an awareness of their deeper and subtler values. Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage can also be promoted through SPICMACAY,” he said
