Sikkim Power DE's signature forged to withdraw money from bank

GANGTOK, August 20: A peon of the State Power & Energy department who had allegedly withdrawn Rs. 45,000 from a bank by forging the signature of his officer has been arrested by Sadar police.
The accused, Govardhan Pradhan was working as a Muster Roll employee and had duped his own immediate officer, HB Pradhan who is a Divisional Engineer at the State Power & Energy department.
A complaint had been registered at the Sadar police station today by the victim’s son, Navin Kiran Pradhan stating that some unauthorized person had withdrawn Rs. 45,000 from his father’s account of SBI, Gangtok branch.
The complaint’s father was under treatment at Siliguri. When his son, Navin Kumar Pradhan tried to take out Rs. 25,000 from the SBI ATM at Siliguri from his father ATM card, he could take only Rs. 10,000.
After arriving in Gangtok, the son found out from the bank that some person had withdrawn Rs. 45,000 from his father’s account from Gangtok on August 18.
Subsequently, a case was filed with the Sadar police.
During the police investigation under SI Renu Chettri, it was revealed that the pass book of complainant’s father was kept in his office.
Later observing the CCTV footage, the accused peon was seen withdrawing the cash amount from the bank.
During questioning, the accused peon broke down and confessed his crime leading to his arrest, police said.
A case under section 419/420/468/471 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against.
