Sikkim Police champion of Independence Day 2009 Cup

Namchi,August16: Sikkim Police (Arsenal XI) became champ of Lt. Razalim Memorial Independence Day 2009 Cup with the victory against ‘SAAN-E-HIND’ Madhya Pradesh. Playing the final match of the tournament Sikkim police defeated SAAN-E-HIND with the final score of 2 goals to 1.
Witnessed by a mammoth gathering, the match was contesting from the beginning. The players from both the teams played skillfully and made a number of attempts. During the first half of the match both the teams got several opportunities. The first half was about to finish when at 45th minute Bir Bahadur Pradhan (10) of Sikkim Police netted a beautiful goal giving his team the lead of 1-0.
Players of SHAAN-E-HIND came back with a new spirit after the first half and played an attacking game. At the 62nd Minute Sikkim Police made a fault near their D area for which they were punished with a free kick to the opponent team. The opportunity was beautifully taken by the players of Shan E Hind and the pass made by Christopher (20) was converted skillfully into a goal by his team mate Abhijit Shah (22) leveling the score 1-1. Sikkim Police then renewed its attack. At 85th minute they got a free kick near the which was converted into the winning goal by No.9 of Sikkim Police, making the final score 2-1 in favour of Sikkim Police.
The winning team Sikkim Police was awarded a cash prize of Rs.50 Thousand and a trophy while Shan E Hind got Rs.30 Thousand and a trophy.
