Police crack down on car thieves, 6 held

MIRIK, 12 AUG: The Darjeeling police have busted a major car theft racket and arrested six persons from Mirik and areas adjoining Sikkim today. The police have also seized three vehicles from the arrested persons.
The police had arrested one Gopi Pradhan with a suspicious car on 8 August from Nirpania Busty near Panighatta. The arrest provided the lead to today's bust. The arrested persons have been identified as Gopi Pradhan resident of Nirpaniya Busty, Sanjay Agarwal and Hemant Agarwal resident of Siliguri, Umesh Gupta- resident of Namchi, Sikkim and Ram Karki, a resident of Jorthang.
Informing about the arrests, the Darjeeling SP, Mr DP Singh said the cars were apparently stolen and brought over from New Delhi. “We suspect more people are involved in the racket, which goes all the way the northeastern states,” the SP said
