GANGTOK, August 9: The Independence Day football tournament organized by Sikkim Football Association (SFA) kicked off from today here at Paljor Stadium.
The first match was played between Boys Club against SSB which the latter won by 4 goals to one.
In the second game played between Sikkim Police and Sikkim Football Academy, the match was decided in the tiebreaker.
A total of eight teams are participating in the knockout tournament. The other participating teams are Sports Academy Sikkim, Dzongri Club, United Sikkim Sporting Club, Denzong Club and Army XI.
Tomorrow’s match will be played between United Sikkim Sporting Club and Denzong Club. The finals will be held on Independence Day celebrations on August 15 at Paljor Stadium.
Meanwhile, a women’s football tournament at Paljor Stadium will commence from August 12 where four teams are participating. There are two teams from Sikkim, one from Kurseong and the other from Darjeeling.
