Duga link road

Gangtok,August27: A delegation of people from landslide affected areas of Duga, Chiwribotey, Samsing, Faklu, Saku khani met PWD Secretary Mr. Govinda Prasad Sharma Thursday. The delegation urged the Secretary for immediate step to control landslide. The connecting road to Rangpo, Duga and Singtam is washed away by heavy rains triggering a major landslide. This road is the alternative highway to landslide prone 20th mile of National Highway 31A.
The road that connects Samsing with Chiwribotey, Fakli and Saku Khani is not seen anymore. Locals are facing problems as no vehicle is plying on the road for the last month. For official work in Duga Block Administration Centre and other offices people have to walk miles. Sick people are the worst sufferers as there is only one dispensary in the area. Similar problem is faced by local students. People of the whole block are facing shortage of essential commodities which are supplied from Rongpo. Consequent to the landslide, cracks are seen in the cultivated lands in Bhurung village. Big trees are uprooted. People are living in fear.
Secretary Mr. Sharma assured the delegation to look into their problems. He will visit the area on Saturday with departmental officers.
