Namchi,August11: Three days’ Block Level Horticulture, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Awareness programme and exhibition cum competition organized by South District Zilla Panchayat for the farmers of Maniram, Sngithang and Rong-Bul Gram Panchayat Unit was concluded on Monday here at Maniram Village Tourism Society complex.
Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture and Irrigation, Dawcho Lepcha, was chief guest of the valedictory function and MLA of Barfung Constituency, Sonam Gyatso, was guest of honour. Along with the South District Zilla Upadhakshay, Himal Tamang, the closing function was attended by the officials from different departments.
Agriculture Minister Mr. Lepcha in his address appreciated the step taken by South District Zilla Panchayat and also applauded the active participation of the farmers from various wards of the Territorial Constituency. He said the SDF Government under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Pawan Chamling was providing a number of opportunities to the educated youths of the State. In Agriculture and Horticulture related sectors the government has announced various pro farmer schemes in order to encourage them, he said. He urged the farmers to adopt modern techniques of farming. The Barfung MLA also addressed the gathering.
On the occasion the progressive farmers were awarded cash prize and certificate in first, second and third category while the participating farmers from different wards were also given consolation prizes. The cash prize of Rs.1 Lakh was sponsored by the of Horticulture Department
