Prashant fans not happy with Sony

GANGTOK, Nov. 5: Thousands of Prashant fans thronged at the Palzor Stadium to watch his first ever show in Sikkim after winning the ‘Indian Idol’ crown in September. However, people are dissatisfied with Sony Entertainment channel this time as they again raised about Rs 45 lakh from the hill state in one show as they charged Rs 150 per ticket. “We are not happy with Sony entertainment as they charged Rs 150 to make Prashant Tamang “say thanks to Sikkim” for voting him, if so he could have done it through the channel itself which is watched all over the country,” said Mr Padam Chettri a local singer. “We know Sony has a year’s contract with our hero but it doesn’t mean that Sony had bought him forever," he added.Meanwhile, the show disturbed the on-going Governor’s Gold Cup football tournament in the stadium. “We are not against the show but it would have been better after completion of the whole match not during the tournament which made us lose Rs 7 lakh per day,” said an officials of the Sikkim Football Association (SFA). He added that they had to postpone the semi-final to the next day. Sony however, made a profit of Rs 45 lakh and the state lost Rs 11.25 lakh as entertainment tax (from 25 per cent of the cover price of the ticket). “This is totally illegal because Sony Entertainment channel didn’t seek permission nor placed any application or paid any entertainment and amusement tax and made a fool of the people of the state” said a state urban development and housing official
