Gangtok:Celebrations of Diwali, the festival of lights, kicked off today throughout the Sikkim amid traditional fervour with people exchanging sweets and gifts.
In the state capital Gangtok, all the small and major markets were bustling with activities as shoppers were seen making last minutes purchases for the festival which marks the return of Lord Rama to his kingdom after 14 years in exile.
Bursting of crackers has already started in several areas in the capital. People have started thronging to places of worship to perform Puja on the occasion.
