NAMCHI, November 04: The curtains fell on the Namchi Mahotsav 2007 today amidst a colourful cultural presentation.
Students from Boomtar School presented Nepali folk dance followed by a Bhutia dance by Ghurpisey School, Lepcha dance by Pakjer Tourism Development Society, Rai dance by Singithang School and Tamang dance by Boomtar Samaj, Namchi. The main attraction, however, was the foot tapping musical presented by the local as well as the guest artists.
Apart from the cultural presentation, the festival this year saw the participation of more rural population interested in showcasing their rural artifacts.
The three-day long festival also saw a large number of foreigners, particularly from Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, France and Holland who were received warmly and provided with the finest Sikkimese hospitality. The presence of domestic tourists also indicated the success of the Mahotsav as a tourism festival. This year, the Mahotsav has managed to draw a huge number of people than before than in previous years.
Today’s programme also featured open events like musical chair, tug of war, sack race for boys, needle and thread race for girls, hitting the jackpot (for boys), spoon race (for girls). Winners from each category were handed prizes by the chief guest Girish Chandra Rai, MLA Melli.
