SIKKIM GOES DRY FOR LOCAL ELECTIONS

Booze shops down shutters in compliance with Election Dept directives
RANGPO, October 25: All the liquor shops downed shutters all over the State from today as per the orders from the State Excise Department in view of the Panchayat elections slated to take place on October 26.
With the closure, this border town wore a deserted look. The liquor business is one of the main businesses from which State Government earns huge revenues and Rangpo is the liquor hub from where most of the travelers buy their bottles of booze to take home.
Although the shops would remain open on October 28, it will remain closed on October 29 & 30.
