Sikkim continues to bear brunt of NH 31A breach

RANGPO, September 14: There are no signs of improving the National Highway 31-A. Vehicles are still using the road via Darjeeling.
With the submersion of the road at 27th Mile today, the oil tankers of the Sikkim Nationalized Transport got stuck in the stretch resulting in the blockade of the road for the whole day. Chances are there that the road may open only tomorrow evening.
The Lepcha Jhora Bridge near Chitrey has also submerged. Heavy vehicles are prohibited to ply through this bridge and only light vehicle and big vehicle that are empty are permitted to ply via this bridge.
Construction work for the temporary Bailey bridge at Tarkhola is still underway and has crossed the completion date. Irate drivers complain that the GREF have been delaying the works.
