GANGTOK, Sept. 25: Panchayat polls in Sikkim are likely to be held on 26 October. The State Election Commission has called upon all the panchayat wards and all territorial constituencies of zilla parishads in Sikkim to elect new members for gram panchayats and zilla parishads.
"All district collectors have been appointed as returning officers for territorial constituencies of the zilla parishads. They would accept nomination papers of contesting candidates and scrutinise those," secretary, election commission Mr CP Dewan, said.
"All nomination papers of the contesting candidates in the districts of East, South and North shall be accepted at the respective district headquarters and the nomination papers in the district of West would be accepted at Gyalshing and Soreng," the secretary informed.
He further added: "Scrutiny of nomination papers of the candidates contesting elections to gram panchayats and zilla parishads shall be made at the district headquarters of Gangtok, Mangan, Namchi and Gyalshing."
While 1 October is the last day for filing nominations, the papers would be scrutinised on 3 October. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is 5 October and the polls would in all likelihood be held on 26 October
