Class IX Girl Student Dies in Rumtek LandslideGangtok , September 10; The incessant rainfall caused the disaster in many parts of the State Sikkim. While a 17 years girl who was studying in 9th Standard died at Rumtek constituency due to heavy landslide in the early morning of September 9, the other members of family were also injured and hospitalized.
The landslide reported to have occured around 3.30 am in the night when all members of family were in deep sleep.
The sudden landslide damaged the entire house and young student girl was trapped under the load of debris and was screaming for help which was too late for her to be rescued from claws of death.
The incident resulted in immediate visit of Area MLA cum Minister Menlop Lepcha as well as Health Minister Hissay Lachungpa who directed health authorities to provide all medical treatment to the injured members of family who are now all admitted at STNM hospital, Gangtok. The immediate relief was provided to affected family on behalf of state government.
