Hill protest over idol ‘insult’

Darjeeling, Sept. 26: The hills have erupted in protest after Indian Idol Prashant Tamang was allegedly insulted by the radio jockey of a Delhi-based FM station, a day after he won the crown.
The FM station, however, has denied the charges.
All shops here started closing down after 11.30am today. A rally comprising students and residents reached the district magistrate’s office to demonstrate on the issue.
Later, the rally converged at Chowk Bazar, where members of Prashant Fan Club organised a public meeting. There it was unanimously decided that the protests would continue till the radio jockey came here to apologise.
Members of the fan club have already written about the incident to information and broadcasting minister Priya Ranjan Das Munshi. The club is also expected to lodge a complaint at Darjeeling Sadar police station tomorrow.
