GANGTOK RALLY IN SUPPORT OF PRASHANT TAMANG


GANGTOK/NAMCHI, September 07: Indian Idol fever has griped the entire State. A massive voting campaign rally was taken out in Gangtok, Jorethang and Namchi today to plead support from people to vote in favour of Prashant Tamang, one of the three contestants in the Indian Idol show on Sony Television.
In order to ensure a berth for Prashant at the top two, the entire State have come together in a campaign never ever seen in the State or the Darjeeling Hills ever.
Two PCO booths at Deorali and Private Taxi stand in Gangtok will be opened for the whole night tonight where by people can vote for Prashant free of cost. Voting committees are also formed in Jorethang, Namchi and Namthang to continuously vote for the “Pahar ko Gaurav” after his gala round tonight.
In Gangtok, the rally was organized by Sikkim Journalist Forum in association with Nayuma Television while the rallies in South and West districts were organised by the recently formed Prashant Fan’s Club.
The Sikkim Journalist Forum has plans to cast votes worth Rs 70,000 for Prashant from one of the hotels in the capital.
All the rallies were participated by a large number of people, including members from various organizations and associations of the state, students, youths, police and business communities.
The rally in Gangtok started at around 9: 30 am in the morning from Sikkim Government College gate, Tadong and culminated at the vicinity of Community Hall, Gangtok with a brief meeting.
Narsing Rai, President, All Sikkim Government Employees Association said Prashant has not only made the entire people proud but has added a new spirit of encouragement for aspiring singers of the hills.
Similarly YT Lepcha, President, MR and Work Charge Employees Association appealed the entire people to cast more votes for Prashant Tamang.
MS Khan from Anju Man- e- Islamia said Prashant has already become idol for the Himalayan people and that it is time to make him the idol of India.
Others to address the gathering were Dilip Gurung of United Jeep Driver’s Association, Meena Tamang, United Arithang Development Society, Chunilal Ghimirey, Kiran Rasaily and others.
The grand finale of the Indian Idol will be held on September 23 in New Delhi
