24 Hours Kalimpong Bandh Over RJ Nitin Remarks


Kalimpong,Sep27: Prashant Tamang, the 3rd Indian Idol's fan widely condemned the alleged statement of an anchor Nitin who had allegedly remarked derogatory statement for the Nepali people. He is allegedly stated to have made the remark in Hindi in Radio FM programme like this, "Nepali ko Indian Idol Bana diya, ab hamara Ghar, mahalla ka chowkidari kaun karega ji? The Prashant Fan at Kurseong took procession in the street and burnt the effigy of Nitin Kumar, the Radio anchor protesting his alleged derogatory remark on Nepali. A representative met the District Administrator Shri Dibyendu Das and demanded to take necessary action. The alleged derogatory remarks of Nitin Kumar is being circulated widely among the Indian Nepali community. The situation if the alleged statement is to be true can aggravate in the region for the people are gradually taking notice of the comment and FM Radio is not popular in the hill. A mass rally was also organized at Darjeeling protesting the alleged derogatory remarks of Nitin in one private FM Radio programme and the people have strongly demanded unconditional apology from Nitin. In the wake of such alleged derogatory remarks, some of the hardcore Indian Nepali citizens have decided to urge the Apex body of Indian Nepalis, called Bharatiya Gorkha Parishang to call a general meeting forthwith and take appropriate decision for the future course of action and chalk out the strategy. When the hill people of Darjeeling are already expressing their anguish over the delaying tactics of West Bengal and Centre Government in the Gorkhaland and separate statehood demand, the alleged derogatory remarks may work as adding fuel in the fire. The hill people widely organized procession in Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Siliguri, Dooars and many parts of North Bengal and burnt the effigy of Nitin, the jockey of Delhi FM Radio Mirchi. Bar Association of Kalimpong filed a defamation case against Nitin and the people of Kalimpong observe 24 hours strike and closure of 31 A National highway linking to Kalimpong-Siliguri and Sikkim to Siliguri. In Sikkim too, the incident is being condemned and the people are expressing anguish over the statement. Rajya Sabha MP Shri Saman Pathak has urged the union broadcasting minister Shri Priyaranjan Das Munshi to take appropriate action for allegedly making such derogatory remarks and allegedly inciting the people of hills for communal ism. The Former MP and President of Bharatiya Gorkha Parishang has reported to have contacted with the director of FM Radio and it is learnt that the FM Radio asked for apology and even broad casted songs appreciating Prashant Tamang after she lodged the complaint, but even her clarification has not made satisfaction in the whole incident.
