Toy Train, vehicles on 31A NH bear protest brunt


Kurseong, Aug 10: The Democratic Revolutionary Youth Front, a youth wing of the Communist Party Revolutionary Marxist held up rail and road communication in different parts of the Darjeeling hills today.

The organisation held up the Toy Trian’s movement by staging an agitation at the Sonada Station near Darjeeling.The DRYF activists also blocked the National Highway 55 at Sonada in support of a charter of demands.

The DRYF also held up traffic movement for an hour at Kalijhora on National Highway 31 A, which is the lifeline to Sikkim and Kalimpong. The agitators served a memorandum highlighting the deplorable condition of the NH 55 and NH-31A and seeking remedy.

Addressing a rally at Sonada, the DRYF president Mr Uddham Khanal alleged that the DGHC administrator, Mr Subash Ghisingh was suppressing the Gorkhaland demand in connivance with the Centre and the West Bengal government. The CPRM, central committee, secretariat member, Mr B M Rai alleged that a conspiracy was on to deprive the people by not holding the panchayat and DGHC elections.Proper attention for the Sonada hospital, end of nepotism in appointing ICDS personnel, a separate state of Gorkhaland bill and immediate reopening of the closed Ring-Tong Tea Estate were some of the DRYF’s demands. The agitation, however, made things difficult for the tourists as well as the locals.Vehicles remained stranded at various places in the Kurseong sub-division during the agitation.
