SAHEED DURGA MALLA BALIDAN DIWAS OBSERVED


GANGTOK, August 26: A daylong seminar of Bharitya Gorkha Parisangh, Sikkim Chapter was held at Sikkim College Auditorium here on August 25.
Dr Diwakar Pradhan, noted Litterateur was the resource person while CD Rai, President Press Club of Sikkim chaired the programme.
Eminent journalists Subash Deepak, Ashok Chaterjee, Bijay Bantawa, and Principal, Rhenock College also attended the seminar.
Commemorating the death anniversary (Balidan Diwas) of Saheed Durga Malla, a gorkha freedom fighter, the day was observed with full fervent all over India.
“Gorkhas are born under humiliation and disgrace and is a miserable fact”, Dr. Diwakar Pradhan said. He also opined that due to lack of proper researchers and philosophers in Gorkha community, the community is still facing national identity crisis in India, which according to him is the saddest part.
He too emphasized on the urgency and importance of spreading the Nepali language, which is one of the most important factor for the Gorkha’s existence. He also urged the gathered people to reminiscence the sacrifice made by Gorkhas during the war of independence.
Likewise, Subash Deepak said that despite huge sacrifice made by the Gorkhas for freedom of India, there is no credit given to them in the country’s historical records.
“Mahatma Gandhi’s high thought, Subash Chandra Bose’s determination and Gorkhas Bravery are the three vital aspects of India’s independence.” Ashok Chaterjee said.
