The Meeting of Sikkim Cabinet held

Gangtok: The Sikkim Cabinet in its meeting held on 30th July decided to install the statue of Kazi Lhendup Dorji Khangsharpa in front of Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok. The Cabinet in its special meeting held at Tashiling Secretariat expressed deep sorrow over the passing away of Kazi Lhendup Dorji Khangsharpa, the first Chief Minister of Sikkim on July 28, 2007. The meeting also decided to confer meritorious service award to deserving Government employees/ individuals on the occasion of State Day and conferment of award to the 1973 veterans of freedom struggle of Sikkim . In an earlier meeting several proposal were sanctioned, including a proposal for procurement of Text Books for the Academic Session, 2006 from CBSE, NCERT and other authorised private publishers. The meeting chaired by the Chief Minister and attended by Cabinet Ministers and Chief Whip also sanctioned proposal for the construction of School Buildings and Rain Water Harvesting Schemes for various schools in Sikkim under NLCPR. The proposal for development of tourism infrastructure at Mangan, Phodong and Aritar under Centrally Sponsored Scheme along with proposal for development of Pilgrimage Tourism and other Infrastructure at Sang in East Sikkim under 100% Centrally Sponsored Scheme were also sanctioned. The Cabinet, in regard to a proposal resubmitted seeking approval for raising of the retirement age on superannuation of teachers and approval of the concerned draft, has directed that the department should follow the Sikkim Government Service Rules strictly while reviewing the service of the Government Employees. After 20 years/ 50 years of service, the service records of all Government employees should be strictly reviewed. In case of the teachers the review should be complete by September 2007. Proposal for the formation of Directorate of Capacity Building under DOPART, its functions, and the implementation of the various schemes envisaged under the Capacity Building Programme, and also setting up its new office with all necessary infrastructure and other requirements has been approved by the Cabinet.Similarly proposal seeking administrative approval and financial sanction for implementation of the work of upgradation, renovation and alteration of Community Health centre – cum District Hospital including construction of Kitchen Block, fencing etc. at Namchi was approved by the meeting. The Cabinet also decided to approve proposal seeking approval to reconvene the Session of Sikkim Legislative Assembly August 9, 2007 in order to transact some urgent Government business and also amend the Sikkim Travelling Allowances Rules 1980 and approval of the draft Sikkim Travelling Allowance (Amendment) Rules 2007.
The Proposal seeking approval of the proposal relating to the entitlement, purchase and replacement of vehicles in the Government was also approved.
