
जङ्गुका लेप्चाहरूद्वारा मुख्यमन्त्रीसमक्ष जवविद्युत परियोजना शुरू गर्ने
Gangtok,August 19: A group of 26 members of Lepcha community from Dzongu have appealed to the Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Chamling for ensuring a speedy implementation of Panan hydel project at Dzongu although the other members of Lepcha community under are still in hunger strike demanding the review or scrapping of the project altogether. In the memorandum submitted to Chief Minister, they have expressed their concern that the people of Dzongu had urged the Government to implement the project on July 20, 2007 immediately but the state Government till date has not taken any step towards their appeal. Now again in their appeal, The group seeking an early project implementation have alleged that some handful people are going on hunger strike and most of them belong to out side the state and does not represent the interests of Dzongu and these hunger strikers are also being patronized by the opposition parties.
It is further alleged that ACT has taken the issue only keeping in mind the forthcoming panchayat & Municipal elections in state and are driven by political motivation in their demands. They have stated in the petition that they are genuine affected people from Dzongu and would be greatly benefited by the project if timely implemented and have claimed that they represent the majority Lepcha people in true sense.
Further referring the speech of Prime Minister of India during 60th Independence day celebration, they have expressed their concern that while the country is making investment for the development of the backward state, the Government here in Sikkim is struggling with ani-development political forces. After completion of the project, the local people will get maximum benefits including the employment opportunities, they have added. They have also demanded a clarification be issued by state government on the reasons of delaying implementation of hydel projects in area within a week.
