Gangtok: The state government of Sikkim has formally instituted an award in the honour of Sikkim's first Chief Minister Kazi Lhendup Dorji Khangsarpa who had passed away on Jul28, last month.
As per notification issued by the Home department on August10,2007 :
The award will be called 'LD KAZI AWARD FOR THE DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT' and will be conferred on either State day or Independence Day.It is learnt that award will be conferred on Independence day this year and henceforth on State Day. The award will go to the deserving person who have made praise worthy contribution to the democracy movement.
Apart from citation ,Award will carry a cash component of Rs.1 lakh.
The state Government ,it maybe recalled, has already announced plans to install a life-size statue of Kazi Sahib at Chintan Bhawan. He is known and remembered as the Father of democracy in Sikkim .
