POLICE ARREST ONE WITH FAKE RS. 500 NOTES IN GANGTOK
GANGTOK, August 19: Sikkim Police has arrested one person here in possession of fake indian currency notes.
A police team led by PI Chundi Chopel, Officer In-Charge, Sadar Police Station raided a local hotel at the Church Road here on August 17 and arrested one Zahid Hussein and recovered fake currency worth Rs 10,000 from him.
About 20 fake notes of Rs 500 denomination were recovered from the accused during the raid.
Later, during the interrogation, Zahid Hussein revealed that the fake currency was given to him six months ago by a man from Siliguri, West Bengal to sell it in Sikkim.
On August 19, the accused was produced before the CJM, East/North, Gangtok and was sent on a five days police remand.
A case has been registered under section 489-B/489-C (using as genuine forged or counterfeit currency-notes or bank-notes and possession of forged or counterfeit currency-notes or bank-notes) of the Indian Penal Code and is under investigation.
According to the DIG Range Akshay Sachdeva, the accused Zahid Hussian had arrived here on August 17 itself to sell off the fake currency notes to a man from here for Rs 6,000. He also said that the Police found one identification card from the accused and are trying to find out that whether he is a resident of West Bengal or Bangladesh.
Although during the interrogation the accused revealed that this is his first visit to the State, he also told the Police that he as already distributed fake currency in Darjeeling.
“Those who are involved in the case will be nabbed soon,” the DIG said.
