Dr.Chamling demand more central support for devopment of Sikkim




Sikkim Chief Minister Meets Many More Union Ministers in New Delhi



Gangtok: , 30 August :Pawan Chamling, Chief Minister of Sikkim has called on Shri Mani Shankar Aiyer, Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region yesterday. He was accompanied by R.B. Subba, Minister, Law, Commerce & Industry, N.D. Rai, M.P. (Lok Sabha), O.T. Lepcha, M.P. (Rajya Sabha), R.S. Basnet, Pr. Secretary to CM and Anil K. Ganeriwala, Resident Commissioner. Chief Minister has congratulated him for the excellent performance in the overall development of the North Eastern Region of the country. Chief Minister apprised Union Minister about the road development in the State and stressed that the road connectivity to be provided to the remotest corner in the State. Chief Minister submitted two long pending roads proposals which need to be considered for the benefits of the people; i) improvement of Pakyong-Machong-Rolep Road in East Sikkim- 31 kms in length and ii) Extension of Siribadam-Dethang Road to Pareng Gaon and Mangalbaria in West Sikkim- 18 kms in length for an early consideration by the Ministry of DoNER. Later in the day, Chief Minister meet Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh , Union Minister of Rural Development. Chief Minister thanked him for being kind and concerned on providing generous central funding to the State. He apprised him that his Government attaches highest priority to the poverty alleviation and infrastructure development in the rural areas. Chief Minister also expressed gratitude for having the proposals of the State Government of 93 packages covering 440 kms cleared by the Empowered Committee under PMGSY though permission to proceed with only 37 packages has been accorded. He earnestly requested Union Minister to intervene in the matter to accord clearance for the remaining 56 packages of works at the earliest so that the work on all the packages can start simultaneously. Hon'ble Union Minister for Rural Development gave assurance that he would personally look into the mater for sanctioning remaining projects at the earliest. He also appreciated the State Government's committed efforts towards sanitation in the State. Chamling also meet Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Minister of Power and requested him for early sanction of project for evacuation of power in the State. He also apprised the Union Power Minister about the progress of various Hydro Power Projects. Union Minister of Power appreciated the initiative of the State Government in enhancing the power availability in the country through these Hydro projects while fully protecting the ecology and environment of the hilly State.
