BSNL TO INVEST Rs.20 CRORES IN SIKKIM


Gangtok: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is going to reintroduce Wireless in loop (WLL) set in 16 different areas of Sikkim. WLL, which was introduced in Gangtok, will be expanded in other areas of the State, Mr. S N Roy Chowdhury, General Manager of BSNL, Gangtok, informed in a press conference at his office on August 7.It may be recalled that earlier BSNL had introduced WLL service which was rejected by the customers due to poor service. So far Basic Tele receiver Station (BTS) have been installed for the WLL service in Tintek, Pakyong, Mangan, Ravangla, Chungthang, Namchi and Geyzing. Besides, installation of hardware machines in nine other places is also complete, he revealed, BSNL GM said. Pending work to install software in the area will be completed within a month. Now the people can access the WLL telephone service by just depositing the security deposit of one thousand rupees, he said. The customers will be relieved of paying charge for telephone handset. The WLL service will also have access to internet connection. Mr. Roy Chowdhury also informed that BSNL is going to invest 20 crore rupees in Sikkim to improve tele-network facilities. BSNL also has an ambitious plan for improving mobile and broadband service during 2007-08 fiscal, he informed.BSNL is aiming at connecting 15000 telephone lines in urban and 15000 in rural areas, Mr. Roy Chowdhary informed. Besides, 12 urban broadband exchanges and 10 rural broadband exchanges will also be established, he said.
