NO MORE MUSHROOMING OF BILLBOARDS IN SIKKIM

UD& HD PULLS DOWN HOARDINGS BEFORE EXPIRY OF DEADLINE

RANGPO: The Urban Development & Housing Department has started removing all unauthorised hoardings, boards, advertisement materials from Rangpo Bazaar. Most advertisement materials were of various mobile companies like Airtel, Aircel, Hutch etc.
However, the department’s move apparently came a day ahead of completion of the 15 days deadline offered by the UD&H Department following a notice dated June 22, 2007.
The UD&HD notice on June 22 had issued a notice through various local newspapers that the ‘department has decided to remove all unauthorised hoardings/ boards etc from the displayed areas immediately, so as to maintain the beautification of the state’, as per the Sikkim regulation for Display of Advertisement (Amendment) Rule 2001.

“Unauthorized and illegal billboards/ hoardings are bound to be ordered to be removed in public interest,” the UD&HD added
As against the departmental notification and deadline fixed thereupon, on June 29 some departmental officials today visited the market area and removed the hoardings of different companies. A social organization that has installed a drinking water stall at Rangpo bazaar had displayed the organisation’s name at the back side of the water facility, was also removed by the department today.
The business community here at Rangpo was also apparently dissatisfied with the UD&HD’s course of action, as the team headed by the department was escorted by an unauthorised person. Representative of a private company today also opposed the activities of the department, as the time notice of 15 days has not yet expired.
